Based on Emma Thompson’s own adaptation of 1960’s Nurse Matilda series of children’s books by Christianna Brand. Nanny McPhee is a magical governess that changes the behaviour of 7 unruly children. In this witty fable, Thompson portrays the ugly nanny with magical powers who enters the household of widowed Mr. Brown (Firth) and attempts to tame his ill-behaved children. The children have driven away 17 previous nannies and are certain they will have no trouble with this one. But as Nanny McPhee takes control, they begin to notice their vile behavior now leads swiftly & magically to rather startling consequences. Her influence also extends to the family's deeper problems, including Mr. Brown's inexplicable attempts to find a new wife; an announcement by domineering Aunt Adelaide (Lansbury) she intends to take one of the children away; and the sad & secret longings of their scullery maid, Evangeline (Macdonald). As the children's behavior starts to change, Nanny McPhee's face and frame appear to change as well, creating even more questions about this mysterious stranger whom the children & their father have come to love.
